Paeroa Karangahake Packraft Explore https://nui.nz/2018/04/23/paeroa-karangahake-packraft-explore/ Sun, 22 Apr 2018 12:11:52 +0000 https://nui.nz/?p=8736 22nd April 2018 – Pack Raft Explore around Karangahake Finishing up at Paeroa.

Water level was low for the first half requiring us to get out and carry the Pack Raft around some shallow rapids at certain points. On the second half of the journey, the river was sufficiently deep at most rapids allowing us to ride it all the way to Paeroa without needing to hop out.

Photos taken on my Samsung Phone (S7 Active) this time.

Whanganui Journey https://nui.nz/2016/02/16/whanganui-journey/ https://nui.nz/2016/02/16/whanganui-journey/#comments Tue, 16 Feb 2016 10:47:34 +0000 https://nui.nz/?p=2393 Whanganui Journey 11th February 2016 to 15th February 2016 – A magical canoeing trip along the Whanganui river with Blazing paddles.

A 5 day, 4 night Journey from Taumarunui to Papiriki covering a distance of approximately around 145 km.  2 Canadian Canoes and 1 single kayak (which I took).  Miraculously, despite the pre-trip warnings of expecting to capsize at least once, while there were definitely near misses (getting snagged on a strainer and taking on water or being thrown onto rocks while going around a sharp bend on rapids), We escaped capsizing

Group members include: Carl Brett, Lina Zhou, Trevor Scott, Shan Shan Ou, Fergus Young (Myself and who ended up being the Primary Photographer),

Campsites we stayed at…

  • Poukaria
  • Mangapapa
  • Mangawaiiti
  • Ngaporo
