Speaking of which, there’s been a gazillion of outings for which I’ve yet to upload photos. The reality is, the hikes are all beginning to look much the same.

Rangiwahia Hut Track https://nui.nz/2022/02/18/rangiwahia-hut-track/ Fri, 18 Feb 2022 05:32:33 +0000 https://nui.nz/?p=11933 Tuesday 4th January 2022 – A short climb up Rangiwahia Hut Track out in the Ruahines on a fairly warm 30 degree day.

Took me around 2 Hours 20 minutes with a day pack including short stops along the way to cool off.

Elevation gain is around 500m – 580m. First part is relatively steady, before a short 80m drop down to the arch bridge and then a steeper climb of about 350m up to the hut.

If time permits, can do a much longer loop via Mangahuia.

Three Sisters, Tongapōrutu, Taranaki https://nui.nz/2022/01/15/three-sisters-tongaporutu/ Sat, 15 Jan 2022 01:40:08 +0000 https://nui.nz/?p=11895 Thursday 6th January 2022 – Final stop of the Central north island trip. Visit to the Three Sisters at Tongaporutu just north of New Plymouth. Can only be accessed about 2 hours either side of low tide. About a 10-15 minute walk one way.

 

 

This was the first time I processed a photo set entirely using tools available to Ubuntu Linux. ImageMagick (Command Line tool), ShowFOTO and Shotwell. Aside from my job obviously, current plan is to change over almost completely to using some flavor of Desktop Linux going forward for my specific personal computing needs.

Mangawhero and Waitonga Falls, Mt Ruapehu https://nui.nz/2022/01/15/mangawhero-and-waitonga-falls-mt-ruapehu/ Fri, 14 Jan 2022 18:32:34 +0000 https://nui.nz/?p=11861 Monday 3rd January 2022 – A pair of easy and short walks to a couple of falls around Mt Ruapehu.

 

Waitonga Falls was visited in the past myself just after snow fall.

Waitonga Falls is around 2 hours return including an explore up to the Falls themselves

Mangawhero Falls is right beside the car park, with just a short stroll to the viewing platform itself.

Managed to find the time to get out of Auckland after all over the Christmas / New Years break and do a road trip. Will gradually post up some other galleries over the coming week or so.

Walk to the Tupapakurua Falls is about 1 hour 30 minutes (one way) to the base, an additional half hour (4 hours return)

Dropped into Morrinsville to wander along the Morrinsville River Walkway, a short 1.4 km one way loop-able track.

Anyway, looks like the latest Huawei EMUI 11 Update has caused the P30 Pro camera to severely degrade substantially from it’s original firmware EMUI 9.1. Will try and figure out how to roll it back to the original.
